What is Vector?
Vectors can be defined as a geometric entity that has both a magnitude and direction. A vector is basically an arrow with two components: a magnitude (size) and a direction. Vector can be used to describe the displacement of any body or object such as velocity, acceleration, momentum, etc.
Types of vectors:
The 6 main types of vectors are:
1. Unit Vector
2. Equal Vector
3. Like Vector
4. Free Vector
5. Sliding Vector
6. Bound Vector
1. Unit Vector: A vector whose magnitude is unity is known as unit vector.
2. Equal Vectors: The vectors which are parallel to each other having same direction and
equal magnitude are known as equal vectors.
3. Like Vectors: The vectors which are parallel to each other having same direction and
unequal magnitude are known as like vectors.
4. Free Vectors: The vectors having definite magnitude and direction but no specific location
are known as free vectors.
5. Sliding Vector: A vector which can be moved along the direction of vector itself is known
as sliding vector.
6. Bound Vector: A vector which has a specified point of application is known as a bound
vector.
